ROBERT BOBBY
A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME

A Brief History of Time captures the essence of what makes The Robert Bobby Trio special. This collection of eleven songs was recorded live in the studio over two sessions to capture the energy & spirit of a typical RB3 performance....not that there is anything typical about seeing The Robert Bobby Trio. The Robert Bobby Trio is Robert Bobby on guitar & vocals, Mrs. Bobby on bass, & Bill Nork on dobro, mandolin and a little guitjo.

Robert Bobby has been a staple of the Central Pennsylvania music scene for more decades than Tim McCarver played major league ball, and has been favorably reviewed by music critics in Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, Sing Out! and numerous other publications. He is known for his way with words, his passionate voice and his ability to connect with an audience.

Bill Nork is one of the most respected guitar & mandolin players in Central Pennsylvania and professes to be one of the top 10,000 dobro players in the USA. On this recording he displays his versatility from ballads to blues and beyond on both mandolin & dobro.

Mrs. Bobby is the rose between two thorns. Having learned to play the bass around the time her AARP membership arrived in the mail, Mrs. Bobby is an inspiration to anyone who has ever wished they could learn to play a musical instrument. The York County native brings her vast knowledge of roots music and a joy that is evident in her performance with the Robert Bobby Trio. Above all, she's Mrs. Bobby.

The eleven songs on A Brief History of Time include six Robert Bobby originals, four classic cover songs that he has been performing throughout his career and a special one of a kind cover of Mitch Rosenberg's My Baby's Back. Mitch wrote this song when he was in high school back in the late 60's and Robert Bobby is thrilled to be the first to perform My Baby's Back on this cd.

If you like to have fun listening to music, you'll like A Brief History of Time.

Since it's release to folk dj's in early July, 2011, songs from A Brief History of Time have been played on almost 50 stations from California to the New York Island & from Baton Rouge to Canada, Germany, New Zealand & Austrailia. We are truly appreciative of the airplay we have received.

ABOUT THE SONGS

The songs - (note to DJ's - the title song contains the word "ass" the line is "you'll be staring at your ass". innocuous enough, I hope.)

1) A Brief History of Time: Robert Bobby saves you, dear listener, from having to read the Stephen Hawking book by the     same name.  In less than 3 minutes, Mr. Bobby sums up everything you need to know about time, as only a heritage singer-songwriter can.  Chock full of time musical references, cliches & homespun wisdom.

2)  Wild About My Loving:  Just a flat out fun song to play & sing, that I learned from a Jim Kweskin Jug Band album. Inspired mandolin playing by Bill Nork on this one.

3)  Money's Getting Cheaper: This Jimmy Witherspoon shuffle blues classic never ceases to be relevant-unfortunately.

4)  The Peace Song: A new Robert Bobby anthem that asks the musical question, "How hard does Peace have to be?"

Stephen Hawking would probably like the mention of quantum physics & string theory.  Well, who wouldn't?  In the end, all we are saying is "Give Peace A Chance".

5) My Baby's Back: This is a song I've been performing for over 40 years, written by a friend of mine from high school days, Mitch Rosenberg.  I've enjoyed this song for years and I'm hoping you will, too. World debut.

6) Ain't No Way: This is an acoustic version of a vintage Robert Bobby ballad.  If this doesn't tug on your heart strings, you may be dead.

7) Rocking My Baby Back Home: A new song to get your toes a tapping. Features Bill Nork on dobro. If you like rocking blues, this is for you.

8) Hearts Like Atoms Split: First appeared on The Speedboys "Look What Love's Done to Me Now" album in 1983. This is an acoustic version. Is there a theme here, atom's split, string theory, Stephen Hawking blues?

9) When Strangers Start to Cry: This is a cry in your beer country song.

10) One Meatball: The RB3 interpretation of a depression era classic, based on the Josh White version.  You get no bread with one meatball.  Continues the theme of Money's Getting Cheaper.

11) The Last Meal: The final song picks up the food theme of One Meatball & the time theme. Time is everything to this death row inmate sending out for his "Last Meal".  Bluesy, fun, dobro!
